When the Manteca Care and Rehabilitation Center in Manteca holds a Christmas party on Dec. 21, all senior citizens will have a present from Santa.

At least, that’s the goal of the Giving Tree at Precision Automotive in Manteca which has been partnering with generous individuals in the community to make sure the more than 100 seniors at the rehab center will feel the Christmas spirit of gift-giving and sharing.

In fact, some may even get to receive two, even three wrapped gifts from the Precision Giving Tree.

“The tree is up and it’s alive,” said Precision owner Chris Kohl.

The gift “bulbs” are also hanging on the tree and waiting for generous donors to take home. The bulbs, which are doing double duty as the tree’s ornaments, contain information about the various items that the senior residents at the rehab center have on their Santa wish list. These range from sweat sets – shirts and pants – to a pair of warm slippers, hair brush, sugar-free snacks, and colognes.

“Already, we’ve had three or four people come in and grab a few of the ornaments, but these are people who remembered it from last year,” said Kohl who, with wife, Shelly, are asking people in the community to once again open up their hearts to make someone else’s Christmas memorable and joyous.

Kohl said they need to have all donations in by Saturday, Dec. 15, so that volunteers will have time to wrap all the gifts. They will all be distributed to the seniors at the annual Christmas party given by the center for its residents. This year, the party will be held Friday, Dec. 21, at 2 p.m.

Donors are asked to bring the gifts unwrapped so that any extra items can be distributed to those whose “wish lists” have not been picked by any donor.

Kohl said giving through the Giving Tree is easy. Simply stop by Precision Automotive, “take a bulb off the tree, buy what items you can from the list on the bulb, put the items in a gift bag unwrapped, and bring the gift back to Precision no later than Dec. 15.”

This is the seventh year the Giving Tree has been making the Christmas spirit bright for the residents at the care and rehab facility on Crestwood Avenue, many of whom would not receive any holiday gifts otherwise.
