Teen arrested in Tracy shooting

TRACY – Tracy Police have arrested a 16-year-old in connection with a shooting near that city’s Interfaith Ministries.

An alert Tracy Police officer found and arrested the wanted suspect shooter on Sunday at 5 a.m.

Tracy detectives, school resource officers and patrol officers were able to use information collected during their initial response to determine the shooter’s probable identity on Friday afternoon before police cleared the scene. Later in the evening the suspect’s identity as the shooter was confirmed and that information was shared with all Tracy police personnel. Efforts to locate the suspect began immediately. On Sunday morning the suspect was arrested without incident. The teen was unarmed at the time of his arrest.

The suspect was on active probation for armed robbery. He was booked into San Joaquin County Juvenile Hall on charges of attempted murder, felon in possession of a firearm, and gang enhancement.

The victim remains in stable condition at an area hospital with two gunshot wounds. He is expected to recover.
