Richard G. Batten

Air Force Airman Richard G. Batten graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

 The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

Batten is the son of Halley Batten of Ripon. He is a 2011 graduate of Ripon High School.

Timothy Davis

Army Specialist Timothy R. Davis of Manteca is currently based at Joint Base Lewis-McChord Washington.

The son of proud parents Dana and Kris Davis of Manteca is a May 2010 Sierra High graduate. Davis completed his basic Army training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. He received Advanced Individual Training at Fort Eustis, VA as an OH-58D (12) Kiowa Warrior Armament and Avionic Electrical Manintainer. Davis was recently promoted to Specialist/E-4.

Kyle A. Amick

Navy Seaman Kyle A. Amick, son of Sharon T. and Paul V. Amick of Manteca, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

During the eight-week program, Amick completed a variety of training which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness.

Amick is a 2007 graduate of Sierra High. He is a 2011 graduate of San Francisco State University, San Francisco, Calif. with a BA degree.

Ryan D. Karas

Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Ryan D. Karas, son of Robin and Dan Karas of Manteca, along with nearly 12, 000 past and current crewmembers, family and friends attended the inactivation of aircraft carrier USS Enterprise (CVN 65).

The Enterprise, the world’s first nuclear powered aircraft carrier, recently completed its 25th and final deployment and returned to its homeport of Naval Station Norfolk for a scheduled inactivation, held prior to the ship’s terminal offload program and subsequent decommissioning.

The inactivation ceremony was the last official public event for the ship, and served as a celebration of life for the ship and the more than 100, 000 Sailors who served aboard.

Karas is a 2008 graduate of Sierra High School. He joined the Navy in September 2008.

Cedric R. Stalling

Navy Airman Apprentice Cedric R. Starling, a 2011 graduate of Lathrop High School, along with nearly 12, 000 past and current crewmembers, family and friends attended the inactivation of aircraft carrier USS Enterprise.

Daniel L. Dunn

Army National Guard Pfc. Daniel L. Dunn has graduated from the Basic Field Artillery Cannon Crewmember Advanced Individual Training course at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla.

The course is designed to train service members to maintain, prepare and load ammunition for firing; operate and perform operator maintenance on prime movers, self-propelled Howitzers, and ammunition vehicles; store, maintain, and distribute ammunition to using units as a member of battery or battalion ammunition section; perform crew maintenance and participate in organizational maintenance of weapons and related equipment; and establish and maintain radio and wire communications.

Dunn is the son of Janet Barreth of Ripon and Daniel Dunn of Modesto.

He is a 2012 graduate of Ripon High.
