CHEVRON MOVING 800 CALIFORNIA JOBS TO TEXAS

SAN RAMON  (AP) — Chevron Corp. is moving 800 jobs in the San Francisco Bay area to Texas.

The shift of about a quarter of the petroleum giant's San Ramon headquarters staff will take place over two years.

The San Francisco Chronicle says the employees, most of them in technical positions dealing with information and advanced energy technologies, will be transferred to Houston.

Chevron notified employees in an email on Thursday.

Chevron was founded in California in 1879.

San Ramon will remain Chevron's corporate headquarters, where there are currently about out 3,500 employees. Another 3,000 Chevron employees work elsewhere in the San Francisco Bay area, most of them at the company's refinery and technology center in Richmond.

SAN FRANCISCO MOVES TO BAN HOLLOW-POINT BULLETS: SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Hollow-point bullets and other ammunition designed to cause extreme damage could soon be banned in San Francisco.

Mayor Ed Lee, Supervisor Malia Cohen and police Chief Greg Suhr said on Thursday that high-powered, military-style weapons and ammunition have no place in the city.

The San Francisco Chronicle says Cohen will introduce legislation next month that would ban hollow-point bullets and other ammunition meant to cause extreme damage. The law will also require that sellers notify police when more than 500 rounds of ammunition are being purchased.

The announcement comes a week after the shootings of 20 children and six adults at a Connecticut school.

An earlier San Francisco plan to ban automatic weapons was thwarted by the court. The mayor says the latest proposal will likely face legal challenges.

VALLEJO POT SHOP OWNERS CLEARED OF DRUG CHARGES: VALLEJO  (AP) — A California judge has thrown out drug charges against the former operators of a medical marijuana dispensary in Vallejo.

Visiting Superior Court Judge William Harrison ruled Thursday that Solano County prosecutors did not have enough evidence to show that the pot shop owners had violated state law.

Vallejo police raided the Better Health Group dispensary three times this year before charging Jorge Espinoza and Jonathan Linares with possessing and selling marijuana. The men closed it in June.

In deciding that the two should not be tried, the judge concluded that their activities appeared to be protected by California's medical marijuana laws.

1 DEAD, 2 INJURED IN SF HIT-AND-RUN CRASH:  SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — San Francisco police say one of three people struck and injured in a hit-and-run crash has died.

The crash occurred around 8:50 p.m. Thursday in the Twin Peaks area of the city. Sgt. Michael Andraychak says three pedestrians were struck by the vehicle and thrown onto an adjacent hillside. They had to be evacuated using ropes and backboards.

One of them, 56-year-old Yuee Yao, suffered life-threatening injuries and later died at San Francisco General Hospital. The other victims' injuries were characterized as non-life-threatening.

A fourth person was able to jump out of the way.

Police spokesman Gordon Shyy said the vehicle was located a short distance away and a 23-year-old San Francisco woman arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run driving and felony drunken driving.

FATHERS PLEAD NOT GUILTY TO MOLESTING DAUGHTERS: REDWOOD CITY  (AP) — Two California fathers returned to the United State last week have pleaded not guilty to having sex with their young daughters.

Investigators say one of the Redwood City men impregnated his 12-year-old daughter.

The San Jose Mercury News says39-year-old Manuel Jacinto was arrested in Guatemala after five years as a fugitive.

San Mateo County prosecutors say he took his daughter to a hospital for an abortion in 2007, saying a young boy was the father. But the girl told police she had been having sex with her father.

Prosecutors say another father, 40-year-old Camacho Antioco Rodriguez, fled to Mexico last year after his 13-year-old daughter said she had been having sex with her father since she was 5 years old.
