RIPON – The Ripon Christian Varisty Basketball Tournament saw the Vander Molen family take center stage as Travis Vander Molen proved to be the brightest star in the Knights’ 55-44 championship game victory over Gregori High Saturday.

Vander Molen, who played against his father Mike who is Gregori’s head coach and brother of Ripon Christian head coach Ron Vander Molen, scorched his father’s team for 18 points and a spot on the tournament’s All-Tourney team.

“Travis did a real good job today,” Ron Vander Molen said. “(He was) playing in a tough situation with his dad coaching the other team.

“He was real solid and had 12 of his 18 points in the second half.”

Clayton Blankers and John Vander Molen also finished in double-figures with 13 and 10, respectively.

John Vander Molen and Dan Vos joined Travis on the tournament’s All-Tourney squad.

Ripon Christian will try and stay hot when they open the Oakdale Rotary Tournament Dec. 27 at 3:30 p.m. against the Pitman Pride.
