RIPON - During this time of the year we individually become the definition of stress with the horrible things that often surround us.  By the end of the day we are equally exhausted and sometimes sad.  The monster of anxiety breathing down one’s back is hardly a comfortable state.

So, how can we shake the “stress monster” and have a better day?  There are several ways to wage such an attack and eliminate the cloud of despair.

First, SMILE, as studies show that smiling actually makes us happier – plus it’s contagious.  So, spread the happiness in your soul by showing your pearly white a couple times each day.

Secondly, LAUGH. Laughing makes the world seem a bit brighter.  Try going to a funny movie or make an effort to crack a few jokes with your friends.  I will be worth your while.

Next, GIVE THANKS.  We spend so much time pining for things we don’t have that we forget exactly what we do already have in our lives.  So, when and if you get to feel you have a crummy existence just sit down and write out a list of everything you posses in material items and in friendships.

Roof a little leaky? – at least you have a roof over your head.

And then EXERCISING is a great way to relieve stress and anger.  Exercising released endorphins, which in turn make us happy.  So, take a quick jog or do a few minutes of Yoga to keep from having one of those periodic breakdowns.

REALIZE that sometimes things just can’t be changed or controlled.  If you can’t do anything about a situation, don’t waste your time stressing over it.

Lastly, BE NICE.  Do something good – something nice – for someone else at least once a day.  It’s as simple as holding the door open for an extra second or paying a compliment to someone looking a little down on their day.  Sometimes just seeing that expression of thanks or coaxing a grin out of someone is all we need.  Any small act of kindness might have been all they needed too.

Try these tips sometime this week and experience how they can make your day a tiny bit brighter.
