It doesn’t take Chris Teicheira long to fill-up a comedy roster.

Over the last few years he’s been able to make connections throughout Northern California, and whenever he plans on putting a show together it takes less than a handful of phone calls to get the commitments necessary to put quality acts together.

But he went a different route when planning the upcoming “2 Comics and 1 Zilch” show this weekend at Modesto’s Fat Cat Music House and Longue. He turned to friends to introduce him to the one person he wanted to add to the docket ever since he locked down the space he calls his “home venue” more than two months ago.

Former NBC Voice Standout and Manteca native Lindsey Pavao.

While the two were both nominated for Modesto Area Music Awards earlier this year, the official meet didn’t come until Pavao friended the Manteca funnyman on Facebook and comically posted in his thread which asked about how to get in touch with the Sierra High grad.

She’ll be performing prior to the start of the comedy show itself – which will feature Teicheira, newly added “Pretending to Care” podcast member Kevin Albritton (referred to as the “zilch”) and Teicheira’s roommate Anthony Krayenhagen (Anthony K).

Krayenhagen will headline show and B92.9 DJ John “Chimpo” Considine will serve as the host. The event – which will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 29, is $10. Tickets will be available at the door.

“We just wish that we had more time to promote it,” said Teicheira – noting that Pavao only officially committed 10 days ago. “We had some other things that we were planning on doing like having a choir or something along those lines. I think that music and comedy work really well together and people really like both of them.

“We’re going to play it by ear and I think that it’ll really end up being a great show when it’s all said and done.”

Just like the handful of other events that Teicheira and Krayenhagen have put together, “Pretending to Care” – the podcast that they started at the kitchen table of the home they share in rural Manteca – will once again be the title sponsor of the evening.

Albritton, a Modesto comic that the Manteca duo initially had planned to bring onto the show as a producer, has since become a regular part of the lineup.

And while it’s been a while since Teicheira and Krayenhagen have hosted a local show, they’ve been taking steps to further their comedy careers outside of Northern California in the last month.

Just recently they took a trip to Hollywood and performed at the legendary Comedy Store – watching comedians like Bill Burr, Marc Maron and Bobby Lee do what it is that they do best.

Coming home and getting the chance to play in front of a home crowd – at a place that Teicheira says he feels most comfortable – is something that he’s been looking forward to.

“I honestly feel like the Fat Cat is my home venue,” he said. “It’s a two-tier layout so when you get a belly laugh from the crowd it really feels like laughter is raining down onto the stage.

“And it’s a real club. It’s set up to hold between 300 and 400 people so you get that feel as well. And it’s a real stage – you’re up there and you feel like you’re dominating the crowd. I love that place.”

The Fat Cat Music House and Longue is located at 930 11th Street in Downtown Modesto. The upcoming show – which will begin promptly at 7:30 – costs $10 at the door, and advanced tickets can be purchased by contacting Teicheira at (209) 622-5745.
