Sierra established itself as a championship contender at the sophomore boys level in the Valley Oak League after drubbing host Manteca 54-32 for the Block M Tournament championship Saturday.

Joshua Patton was a force in the paint, finishing with 16 points. Jordan Thompson chipped in 12, and Devin Nunez had nine.

Adrian Contreras and Lechi Nkwocha had nine and eight points, respectively, for Manteca, which had one of its top players limited by an ankle injury and another by foul trouble.

“I thought the pressure from our starting guards really set the tone for us,” Sierra coach Eddie Morales said. “Joshua Patton made a big impact on the game (by) changing shots and blocking shots — he must have had at least six or seven blocks. He was very dominant throughout the tournament.”

The Indians won their own tournament for a third straight season.

They were led by Karisa Carlson’s 10 points, while tourney MVP Jourdan Richter had 10. They were also the two standouts in Friday’s 46-32 semifinal victory over Tracy, with Carlson turning in 16 points and Richter 15. Both Carlson and Zaire Davis were named to the all-tournament team.
