Illegal fireworks reported in Manteca, Ripon

Police dispatchers received numerous reports of fireworks activity with the end of the old year Monday night in Manteca and Ripon.

A number of senior citizens who went to bed at their regular time said they were awakened by the unexpected aerial fireworks exploding near their homes.

In Manteca the greater number of fireworks were being shot off in the 800 block of Buckingham Drive, the 500 block of Dody Drive, the 600 block of Connie Court, the 100 block of El Portal Avenue, the 1300 block of Mitchell Lane, the 100 block of Goodale Court, the 300 block of Scenic Place and at the corner of Diane and Crestwood avenues.

There were similar complaints of fireworks being ignited in the Ripon community.

Thieves in the Manteca community were busy ushering in the New Year with five auto burglaries, three stolen cars, two residential burglaries and one commercial burglary, according to police reports.

The auto burglaries occurred in the 200 block of Sandstone Way, at the corner of East Woodward and Bridewell avenues, the 1200 block of Stonum Lane, at the corner of South Union Road and East Woodward Avenue, and also in the 1300 block of Bass Pro Drive.

The private vehicles were reportedly taken from the 800 block of South Union Road, also in the 1100 block of Wawona Street and near the corner of Lupton Street and Willow Avenue.

The residential burglaries occurred in the 400 block of East Alameda Street and in the 2200 block of Buena Vista Drive.  The commercial burglary was reported at a Mexican restaurant in the 1400 block of Hulsey Way near Yosemite Avenue and Highway 99.
