RIPON – Ripon Christian’s Teagan Manus and Kaylie Colyn were a formidable combination early on, setting the tone for Monday’s rout of Waterford.

The guard tandem helped lead Ripon Christian to a 55-20 victory, spearheading a 22-2 first-period run.

The Knights (2-0 Southern League, 8-4) got it going when Manus found Colyn on the drive to get the offense in gear. Colyn then buried a 3-pointer.

Jenny Wickham jumped into the act, netting three straight baskets on inside feeds from both Manus and Colyn.

Manus hit both Cassidy De Rousse and Colyn, who delivered another 3, giving RC a 16-5 edge. All told, Colyn delivered three triples in the rally. The Knights led 30-7 at the intermission.

“Kaylie has been playing very, very well as of late,” Knights coach Ed Mulder said.

Meanwhile, Waterford (0-2, 3-11) had trouble mounting an offense. The culprits: turnovers and lack of rebounds. Ripon Christian had 45 rebounds.

“We did a good job on the boards and blocking out,” said Mulder, who turned to his bench in the second half.

Sophomore Ellen Blankers took advantage of the extended playing time, giving Ripon Christian a boost over the final two quarters. She scored a game-high 14 points.

“I was happy with my play,” said Blankers, who nearly matched her season-high of 16 points.

Mulder was impressed, too.  He listed Blankers’ effort among “the positives” of the game.

“Ellen seemed to have found her shot tonight,” Mulder said.

Colyn finished with 12 points and Manus and Wickham both had six.
