Manteca turns streets dark with new lights

Editor, Manteca Bulletin,

I am writing you to let you know about the horrible new street light bulbs they are replacing with the old in our neighborhood by Joshua Cowbell School.

I will be giving the city a call tomorrow to ask them “what are they thinking?” Our whole neighborhood is basically in the dark with the new dim LED lighting. It makes the neighborhood look like a ghost town. I can’t see the neighbor across the street.

Several of the neighbors I have spoken to about the new lights are very upset. It is vandalism waiting to happen. They might be saving on the city’s energy bill, but after they get more calls to the police and the homeowners and car insurance companies pay out for things stolen or destroyed, it won’t be worth it.

The one they just installed on Friday by my house is already burnt out. Go figure. All the neighbors are leaving their porch lights on because it is so dark. I recommend the city to come on out at night and check out what they have done. I don’t think they would like it in their own neighborhood. I love Manteca and I have never complained after living here for the past 30 years, but I had just had to vent on this one. I just hope they come back out and change the lighting back to the old style. It’s just not safe.
