TRACY – Sierra High opened its Valley Oak League win over Kimball High on a 21-9 run, the Timberwolves would not surrender the double-digit cushion, stopping the host Jaguars 67-57 Thursday in VOL play.

Eric Melgar led a strong showing from the Sierra backcourt, finishing with a game-high 18 points to guide Sierra (3-0 VOL, 14-3 overall). Guillermo Nunez made his presence felt with 17 points, while Emmanuel Elijah also finished in double-figures with 14.

“There was good guard play from us tonight,” Sierra High head coach Scott Thomason said. “All three of our starting guards were in double-figures. It was a little disappointing on defense giving up 57 points.

“I thought it was a very good road win against a good Kimball team.”

Sierra also got significant minutes from D’Ari Allen who chipped in with eight points.

Sierra will host the Manteca Buffaloes Tuesday in their next VOL contest, followed by a road contest against the Lathrop Spartans Thursday.
