The Ripon Police Department was contacted by several concerned citizens last week, regarding door to door sales of alarms and misinformation.

A representative of an area alarm company reportedly went door to door last week, advising Ripon citizens that if their alarm systems were more than two years old, they were out of compliance with the city municipal code.  Another citizen was reportedly asked if they knew about a home invasion that occurred in their neighborhood.

The Ripon Police Department cautions residents about misinformation being circulated.  The City of Ripon does not have a municipal code regulating the age of residential alarm systems.  Citizens should also be aware of the fact that there have not been any reports of home invasions in Ripon so far this year.  Ripon residents should be wary of sales persons utilizing scare tactics to promote their products.  If you encounter door to door sales persons who cause you some concern, please call the police department immediately.  If you have questions about your neighborhood, or any area of the city, you may call the police department (599-2102) and speak to the on duty watch commander.  You can view crime statics on the department web site at
