Art in miniatures juried exhibition looking for entries for March show

Entries are now accepted for the annual Elizabeth Specht Memorial Miniatures in Mariposa juried exhibition. Deadline for entries is March 1, with the exhibition to open on March 5. The awards presentation will be held on March 24 at the Sierra Artist Gallery, Highway 140 and 6th Street in Mariposa.

The juried exhibition is co-sponsored by the Northern California Society of Arts in Miniatures.

The competition is named after the late mother of retired Lathrop-Manteca Fire District Chief Jim Monty who has been helping in the staging of the annual event. His mother was a miniature artist whose paintings have previously won prizes in the annual Lathrop Mayor’s Purchase Award Show and Sale. She was the one who started the Art in Miniatures competition more than a dozen years ago.

All artists of miniatures are invited to participate in the competition. Paintings submitted must be the original work of the artist.

Accepted media are the following: drawing (pencil, charcoal, ink, pastel, colored pencil, and clay board); paintings (watercolor, acrylic, oil); mixed media; and, sculpture/three-dimensional.

The art work may not exceed 48 square inches (including mat and frame), with a maximum art work size of 25 square inches. Sculptures may not exceed 6”x6”x6”, including the base.

All entries must be presentation ready; no saw-tooth hangers. All watercolors must be under glass or Plexiglas. All entries must contain the following information: title of the work, medium, price, and the artist’s full name. Awards will be presented to the winners in the following categories: still life, animal, portrait, landscape, seascape, and three-dimensional.

Entry fees are $30 for up to six submissions; $25 for up to three submitted; and $10 for a single entry. Entry fees are non-refundable, and must accompany the entry form.

All entries must be either hand-delivered or sent by mail, UPS or Fed/Ex, and must be received no later than March 1, 2013. Cost of return postage is the responsibility of the exhibitor. Also, self-addressed, pre-paid return postage must accompany the art work.
