RIPON — Magpie Antiques is being opened in Ripon by Janet Dyk of Manteca – a Ripon High School alum – at 140 South Walnut Avenue.  The building has been bustling with activity over the last two weeks with vendors trucking in their valuables.

Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 3, the public is invited to browse through the interior of the new shop from noon until 4 p.m.  The official grand opening is set for next Monday morning at 10 with a ribbon cutting scheduled by the Ripon Chamber of Commerce that will include all the vendors ready to meet the Ripon community.

Not only will Dyk have rooms filled by nearly a dozen vendors, but fresh flowers will be the order of the day, every day, provided by her granddaughter Megan Dyk of Farmington Flowers.

Dyk has long been associated with the farming and 4-H communities. She has been an antique collector for the past eight years and a dealer for three.

Collecting antiques was an offshoot of her quilting when she started buying vintage sewing notions, sewing machines, fabrics, and dolls.  She said old wood items of every description were her downfall – just anything with old, like wooden, boxy drawers.

A retired professor from Cal Poly has signed on as a vendor with collectibles of old from the campus with a corner in the 2,500-square-foot building.  Others are from Tracy, Modesto and three are from Oakdale.

The new shop is a family affair with Dyk’s husband Daryl – also a RHS grad – doing support chores and son Ryan taking care of all the wood work with anything that needs cutting.  Another son Daryl lugs everything and anything around for his mom.

Her daughter and daughter-in-law are taking care of the bookkeeping.
