STOCKTON -   Stockton Civic Theatre Director James Reed has cast the musical, “Little Shop of Horrors,” scheduled to open at SCT on March 6.

This comedy horror rock musical features music and lyrics by Alan Menken and book by Howard Ashman.

“Little Shop of Horrors” is about a hapless florist shop worker who raises a plant that feeds on human blood and flesh.  The musical is based on the low-budget 1960 black comedy film “The Little Shop of Horrors”, directed by Roger Corman. The music, composed by Menken in the style of early 1960’s rock-and-roll, doo-wop and early Motown, includes several well-known tunes, including the title song “Skid Row (Downtown)’, “Somewhere That’s Green”, and “Suddenly, Seymour”.

Reed cast Eddie Hargreaves as the hapless Seymour, with the following accompanying roles: Holly Halay as Audrey, Wesley Forman as Mushnik, CJ Martin as Orin, Lydia Merriam-Pigg as Crystal, Madison Chin as Chiffon, Katy Uyeno as Ronnette, and Anthony Allen as the voice of Audrey 2.

Director Reed has been onstage in several SCT productions, last seen in this season’s “White Christmas”.  He has also directed, namely “Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat” and “Hairspray”.  He will also co-choreograph along with Jennifer Hastings, and will also be assisted by musical director Jim Coleman.

“Little Shop of Horrors” will run starting Wednesday, March 6, concluding on Saturday, March 30. For more information, call the Box Office Tuesday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at (209) 473-2424, or go online at sctlivetheatre.com.
