Due to an upswing in Internet related prostitution in Ripon over the last few months, officers conducted a sting operation in an unnamed motel in the community.

A 17-year-old teen was arrested after detectives contacted subjects on “escort service” websites who “brazenly” offered sexual services in exchange for cash.

The Ripon girl was allegedly advertising her services on a popular website. She arranged to meet with an undercover officer at the motel to provide her services, according to First Sergeant Steve Merchant.

After talking with the undercover officer she was taken into custody for alleged prostitution and drug possession, Merchant said.

She was released on a misdemeanor citation and taken home by a parent.

Sgt. Merchant said his department will continue to target prostitution with a combination of patrol based and special operations enforcement.  In the past, officers have uncovered prostitutes offering services to drivers at the Highway 99 truck stops.  One prostitute stole a vehicle and another attacked a victim, he added.

Anyone with information regarding prostitution activities in Ripon is urged to contact Detective Sergeant Terri Jensen at 599-0261
