Lupe Chavez, 90, entered into rest on January 18, 2013 in Manteca surrounded by her loving family. She was born on May 18, 1922 in Mexico. She joins her children (sons) Frank and George Chavez and daughter Isabel “Fluffy” Reynoso in heaven.

Ms. Chavez is survived by her sons Joe, Richard (Christine), and Larry (Kerri) Chavez. She was blessed with 18 grandchildren-David, Joel, Lisa, Teresa, Lori, Monica, Nancy, Ricky, Wedo, Jason, Tina, Gracie, Diane, Frankie, Anthony, Julio, Melissa and Valerie-and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother John and sister Buela.

Lupe was a resident of Manteca for over 35 years. Before retirement she owned and operated “Lupe’s Mexican Restaurant” on Main Street. She was a very independent woman, raising her six children as a single mother; always implementing good values, respectable morals, and extraordinary work ethics. She was a devout Catholic always saying her prayers morning and night, diligently praying for her family. Lupe was an amazing cook, always outdoing herself for family and friends. She was especially known for her homemade tortillas. She was a great conversationalist; always making friends in any crowd. She held her friendships near to her heart as she always made time for visits, phone calls and lunches. In Lupe’s younger years she loved dancing and socializing. Her number one quote was, “Shake it, but don’t break it.” She loved telling stories and was always enthusiastically detailed. Her children and grandchildren were always first and foremost the most important thing in her life; she was always giving and supportive in all of their endeavors. Her sense of humor never went unnoticed, she was constantly full of life; spunky and yet always witty when interacting with others. Lupe will be remembered as a wonderful mother, an amazing grandmother and a devoted friend. She will be missed by all who loved her.
