Kimball High used the momentum of its winter festival to come out and pounce on the visiting Lathrop Spartans 68-51 in Valley Oak League play Friday.

Lathrop (2-6 VOL, 6-13 overall) dug itself an early hole, falling back 36-23 by halftime. Kimball came out with the same intensity to open the second half, outscoring Lathrop by eight points to put the game away.

“We need to get mentally and physically stronger,” Lathrop head coach Bill Slikker said. “Kimball killed us on the offensive and defensive glass.

“They came out and really took it to us.”

The Spartans got a solid effort from Isaiah Ellis, who led the club with 17 points. Point guard Robert Orantes also finished in double-figures with 15.

Lathrop will try and get things figured out by Wednesday when they take on the East Union Lancers in Manteca. The Lancers are coming off a 20-point win over the Manteca Buffaloes.
