Recently I came across a club at Ripon High called Interact. Though this club is in the midst of its second year no one knows much about it. The student body knows it’s not about sports, not about art, not about debate, or even dance. So what exactly is it about? It turns out Interact is a club based on helping the community and communities abroad. “We try to organize at least two events every year, one local and one international,” says President India Chakraverty. “We are basically the Rotary Club for teens.”

Last school year, in the very first year of its existence, Interact managed to send stuffed animals to children in Guatemala, this year they are trying to get together a Relay for Life team. Though it may take a while to get this club truly going, it will most definitely benefit the community here and perhaps a community in an entirely different country. The more students that become involved in Interact, the more good that Interact can do.

Interact may be an infant club now but it is one built upon genuine good intent and willingness to help others. With this, Interact has a potentially bright future that I honestly hope gets brighter as it grows. With luck this is a club may stick around for quite some time.
