The 6th annual Rina’s Run will take a bit longer to complete this year.

The May 11 competition to support the Ripon High Stadium Project will be replacing the 10K race with a half marathon course reaching into Caswell State Park.

The start and finish line will be in the stadium where a health and vendor fair will be taking place, along with a Ripon Rotary Breakfast Burrito fundraiser. The 5K course will be different this year as well. In fact, past participants will experience a lot of changes this year. Everyone crossing the finish line will receive a finisher medal, cash awards have increased, and the shirts will be a black long-sleeved tech shirt. The event will take place in the much-improved Ripon High Stadium that now has sidewalks for the first time in its 70-plus year history among other major improvements.

A half marathon is a 13.1 mile course that is not something one can just wake up one morning and decide to conquer. Although participants are allowed to walk the course, they are encouraged to prepare by training. A running group called the Ripon Roadrunners just started training together with a 2.5 mile run. They meet at Friends Salon 1308 W. Main St. Ripon at 6 p.m. on Thursdays for short  3-mile runs and Sundays at 3 p.m. for longer runs. They have a training plan that will prepare you to complete the Half Marathon on May 11. If you “LIKE” their Facebook page you can stay up to date and receive reminders. You can also contact Kelly Cole at 209-595-8772. There is another training schedule put together by local runner Jeff Qualle that starts Feb.4 as well at the Ripon High Stadium and Rina’s Run website at http://www.rcafsite.com/. For more information please contact Stephanie Hobbs 209-599-6861. You may enter the race online or get an entry form through http://www.rcafsite.com/.
