SACRAMENTO . (AP) — Police say a 32-year-old man found dead after a fire in a Sacramento apartment was a victim of a homicide.

Authorities say the body of Patrick Kendrick was found by firefighters after they put out the fire in the single-story apartment building around 10 a.m. Friday.

Officer Doug Morse, a police spokesman, said that Kendrick had suffered trauma to his upper body.

Investigators believe the fire was set to cover up the killing of Kendrick.

The blaze destroyed the unit where he lived and killed two dogs inside the apartment.

No other residents were hurt, but three adjacent apartments were left inhabitable.
