A check of a suspicious vehicle on Wednesday at Pajaro Avenue and Range Court ended up with the Manteca Police Gang Suppression Unit seizing illegal drugs and weapons.

Upon contact with the driver, 19-year-old Manteca resident Shawn Strauss, detectives noticed marijuana in the vehicle in plain sight. A subsequent search of the vehicle yielded nearly one pound of marijuana, materials used to manufacture narcotics, and numerous prescription pills including Oxycodone, Hydrocodone and miscellaneous psych meds. Materials consistent with the sales of narcotics were also located. In addition to the narcotics, detectives located a loaded .38 caliber revolver.

The driver was taken into custody and members of the Street Crimes Unit were contacted. The two units followed up their investigation at the suspect’s residence where they located three additional handguns. One of the handguns was reported stolen. Detectives also located over 700 ecstasy pills, ¾ of a pound of marijuana, and cocaine.

Strauss was charged with several narcotics sales violations, possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a loaded firearm in public, and armed during the commission of a felony. He was later booked at the San Joaquin County Jail with a bail listed at more than $700,000
