Editor, Manteca Bulletin,

I really appreciate the wonderful article on the front page of the Feb. 6 Bulletin headlined “Manteca blesses religious ads.”

I agree with Pastor Mike Dillman’s statement “When will this madness stop?” about the federal government’s drive to remove all things religious from public forums. I thank our city council for their wise vote.

This reminds me of a quote by the late general of the U.S. Army, Douglas McArthur, who said, “History fails to record a single precedent in which nations subject to moral decay have not passed into a political and economic decline. There has been either a spiritual awakening to overcome the moral lapse, or a progressive deterioration leading to ultimate national disaster.” This is what seems to be happening to our nation today.

During the Korean War, when Major General William F. Dean was released from a Communist prison camp, the young Chinese psychologists who had tried to break him told him not to feel bad about leaving them.

“We will soon be with you” they grinned. “We are going to capture your country.” When asked how they would do this they replied: “We are going to destroy the moral character of a generation of your young Americans, and when we have finished, you will have nothing left with which to defend yourselves against us.”

Many countries thathave fallen to totalitarian governments in the last one hundred years have been bombarded with anti-religious literature and pornography before this took place, to destroy their moral values and patriotism. I certainly hope that America can keep her moral principles and religious convictions strong so that we can have God’s blessings on our nation.

Thanks for your wonderful newspaper.
