SALIDA — The formation of the Ripon Chamber of Commerce years ago, a catalyst in the incorporation of that city, is now being eyed as a master plan for the development of a similar chamber of commerce in Salida and toward their eventual incorporation.

A group of some 15 business and professional leaders met Sunday noon at the Town and Country Restaurant in downtown Salida creating a steering committee to bring the 446 businesses together in the cause for cityhood,  hoping to stop a “land grab” annexation  threatened by the City of Modesto.

Included in the group, led by Katherine Borges, is Debbie Nutt – the oldest daughter and longtime observer of Ripon city councilman and Mayor Red Nutt with her mother Bonnie having served for years in the Ripon chamber.  Their next meeting is March 10 at the Borges home in Salida.
