The Ripon Lions Club will host its 14th annual Almond Blossom Spaghetti Dinner at the Ripon Community Center on Thursday, Feb. 21.

The fund-raiser will benefit vision health – the club’s major cause for the past 40 years.

With the community’s help, the Lions will purchase a Keystone View Vision Screener valued at $2,400.

Lions’ members will use the lightweight screening unit to test for all the essential visionary functions of the eyes including monocular and binocular, color blindness, peripheral vision and glare recovery.

The vision testing equipment can be operated with a remote control or from a PC with software prompting a test question, creating records and tabulating the answers, printing the results and automatically saving the data to a data base.

The all-you-can-eat dinner will feature donated McManis Family Vineyards wines and include spaghetti, salad and bread.

The Community Center opens at 4:30 p.m. with dinner continuing until 7:30, when guests can go to the other side of the building and attend the coronation of the Almond Blossom Queen.

Advance tickets may be purchased from any Lions Club member for $12 for adults and $5 for children.  Cost at the door will be slightly higher.

The spaghetti dinner is now the club’s chief fundraiser.  The pancake breakfast may be discontinued since the group has taken over sponsoring Boy Scout Troop 414 and a Cub Scout pack as well.

The Lions are also continuing with high school senior scholarships.  They have donated to four seniors a year for the past 45 years, with current scholarships at $2,000.  The club’s 50-year total is roughly $65,000 in scholarships.
