Manteca High School has had a Youth Barbershop Music Program on campus for the past five years.

The program was started by School Choir Director Mary Monaghan, and Marc Jantzen, a member of the Golden Valley Chorus. Guidelines are established by the national organization, Barbershop Harmony Society based in Nashville, TN.

The program was originally started for just male students but was expanded to include female students last year. The female youth program is part of the Sweet Adeline organization under the local chapter known as the River Lights Chorus. Each week, members of the Golden Valley Chorus and the River Lights Chorus are on campus working with students as part of the Manteca High Choir Program. The school receives all of the services at no cost to the school or the school district. Music, coaching and other information is all provided as part of the commitment of the two Barbershop organizations.

Students get an opportunity to participate in various Barbershop programs outside of their normal school activities as well as sing in Barbershop Style during their own school concerts.

If you would like more information on Barbershop singing please call Marc Jantzen, who is a Manteca resident at (209) 401-7545.
