Six teens compete Friday for 2013 Miss Manteca & City Ambassador

Manteca Youth Focus over the past six weeks has hosted workshops, trainings and rehearsals all in preparation for this weekend’s extravaganza “Hooray for Hollywood” – the 2013 Manteca Youth Focus Scholarship Competitions.

There are 3 age divisions participating in two separate shows at Calvary Community Church in Manteca. The first show is set for Friday at 6 p.m. and will feature contestants in the 16-20 age division. Tickets are just $5 and available for purchase at the door.

The show will feature entertainment with a special Hollywood theme including a Marilyn Monroe impersonator and local favorites Matt Vaughan and Dan Lansford serving as hosts.  MYF alumni Stephanie Hilson, Katelyn Johnson, Cheyenne Milligan, Ashley Parker, Kristina Priest-Stamper and Lauren Robins guest vocalists.

The competition under the direction of Shim Lacy-Watson and Judi Whitby will also include a special presentation of the 2013 Mini Manteca Fun Campers live on stage including Grace Dixon, Breanna Gibbs, Celeste Guerrero, Clarinda Hutcherson, Kaylee Hutzler, Megan LeBaron, Emily Murphy, Sydnee Navarro, Tielar Nguyen, Jocelyn Perdue, Kyra Plath, Makenna Pokorny, Valaila Menzel, Alexis West and Holden Hutcherson.

All participants will receive educational scholarships and the top three boys and girls in each age division earn “titles” representing signature events andorganizations in the community. Contestants compete in six phases of competition including Community Service Résumé, Scholastic Achievement, Personality Interview, Community Advocacy Speech, Talent and Impromptu questions.

Miss Manteca contestants are:

·        Marissa Davina Candelaria is 17 years old and a senior at Lathrop High School. Sponsored by USA Motors of Lathrop, she will present a vocal solo for her talent.

·        Liana Marie Bassett is 17-years old and a senior at Sierra High School. Sponsored by Center Appliance and the Silver Lining Boutique, she will be presenting an a capella vocal solo with cup percussion for her talent.

·        Robyn Caley Glover is 17-years old and a senior at East Union High School. Sponsored by Leonard Photography, Trang Duong DDS, Lee’s Chinese Cuisine and Midas Manteca, she will be presenting a vocal solo for her talent.

·        M4 Carolina Celeste Gutierrez is 16 years old and a junior at East Union High School. Sponsored by Lawrence Alegre Trucking, she will be presenting a piano solo for her talent.

Manteca City Ambassador candidates are:

·        John Roniel Dumaguing is 19 years old and attends CSU Stanislaus. Sponsored by USA Motors in Lathrop, for his talent he will present a dramatic monologue.

·        John Millard Shaughnessy IV is 18 years old and a senior at East Union High School. Sponsored by George C. Scott MD, Center Appliance, Tokheim-Corbett Physical Therapy, Mark DeJong and Stacy Shaughnessy-JAFRA Consultant, John will be presenting an informative demonstration on power lifting.
