An old-timers’ reunion is in the works for grads of Manteca High School spanning 34 years from 1923 to 1957 under the direction of  the MHS Alumni Association.

Ken Hafer of the Manteca Historical Society said the oldest grads to date, returning their RSVP, are from the 1934 class that weathered the Great Depression.  A planning meeting was held on Thursday at the Manteca Museum for the April 13 event with about 20 grads present who are now to be senior citizens in the community.

Leading the session were Alumni Association co-chairmen for the reunion Don Breitenbucher and Bill McDaniel.  The entire stage at the museum has been decorated by Hafer and his docents in the Manteca High theme displaying a variety of memorabilia from the school’s yesteryears.

Over 1,200 invitations and reservations forms have been sent out to all those graduates with available current addresses on file.  The event is being held at the Elks Lodge at 645 Charity Way in Modesto just off Kiernan Avenue.

The Manteca Museum is hosting special receptions for the returning grads on Saturday and Sunday afternoons from 1 until 3 p.m. both days.  Deadline for the reservations is March 25.

In addition to meeting old friends and having a lot of conversation, there will be music, a program and a super banquet, Hafer said.  A no-host social hour is set for 4:30 p.m. with a “bountiful buffet dinner” set to begin at 6:30.
