WEST COVINA . (AP) — Southern California authorities are searching for a man and a woman who had two children in tow when they allegedly shoplifted at a West Covina department store and beat up a security guard to avoid getting caught.

Police spokesman Rudy Lopez says the man and the woman, believed to be in their 20s, both put merchandise onto their baby stroller Sunday at the J.C. Penney store at the Westfield Shopping Center.

A guard trailed the woman and children out of the store when they exited with merchandise, and was attacked and beaten by the male suspect. The guard suffered a broken nose and minor injuries.

The man had a shaved head and tattoos on both arms. The woman was with a small toddler and an elementary school-age girl.
