It’s deemed the largest hot air balloon festival in Central California.

Color the Skies takes place annually in Ripon on Labor Day weekend. Last year’s event featured 20 colorful balloons, making for a carnival-like event with all proceeds going to the Children’s Hospital of Central California.

Jessica Coleman, who, along with her husband Greg, founded this hot air balloon festival in 2006, is scheduled to attend Tuesday’s Ripon City Council meeting.

She’s seeking a facility-use fee waiver from the City of Ripon for Mistlin Park, specifically, for this year and the following year.

Coleman is looking for a nod from the Council to forego the rental fees for 2013 ($1,250) and 2014 ($3,500). She’s also requesting that the event get promoted on the City’s website.

Elected leaders will convene at 7 p.m. on this item and more in the Council Chambers at Ripon City Hall, 259 N. Wilma Ave.

Council is scheduled to do the following:

•    Approve lending 150 chairs to the American League and Veterans of Foreign Wars for Memorial Day services scheduled May 27 at the Ripon Cemetery.

• Recognize the Women’s Center (Youth & Family Services) with a proclamation to raise awareness and declaring April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

•Determine if the municipal code’s section on “City Administrator” should be revised or removed.

More information can be obtained by calling the City of Ripon at 209-599-2108 or by logging on to www.cityofripon.org.
