Raise sales taxes to keep more criminals in prison

Editor, Manteca Bulletin,

I just had an idea when reading about a tax increase for more police. My idea would be to send those criminals (alleged) currently apprehended by law enforcement officers to jail and then they would not be able to commit another crime later during that same day.

It is noted continually in the newspaper that the suspects are detained and issued a ticked to appear in court.  That probably gives them pause long enough to take a lunch break before doing their next crime with our officers again having to arrest them.

I think our police officers do a wonderful job of policing our streets but their morale has to suffer when they daily see those whom they have arrested right back on the streets again. Hiring more officers will not change this.  Those who are committing the crimes know they will do little or no time in jail due to overcrowding so why worry about being arrested.

If we are to raise taxes we should consider it go to a program whereby criminals will be incarcerated. I do not necessarily subscribe to permanently constructed housing but perhaps tents or maybe yurt type structures that can be re-located if necessary.

Our service members seem to get along fine in tents.
