“Love Ripon” is back.

On Saturday, April 27, the community is encouraged to spend this day giving, caring or doing cleanup projects around town.

Vice Mayor Chuck Winn is scheduled to lead the discussion on “Love Ripon” at tonight’s Ripon City Council meeting.

He along with coordinators Dan Rowe and Matt Householder were involved in the previous “Love Ripon” held last September.

It was about a year ago that Ripon first took part in the event modeled after “Love Modesto.” In 2009, an estimated 1,200 people displayed their love for the city which, years earlier, had been on one of the “worse cities in America” lists.

Couple that with religious leaders responding to the question “what if our churches were to suddenly disappear from the Modesto area, would anyone even care or notice?”

The plan was put into place to rally volunteers – young, old, able and disable people – to help the city out in practical ways.

Ripon, Escalon, Ceres, Oakdale, Tracy and Stockton have since followed Modesto by joining in the “Love” movement.

In Ripon, for example, folks – some were churches, service clubs, families and individuals – donated their time by donating food, giving blood, visiting convalescent homes, or helping with various chores around town, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 pm.

This item and more will be discussed during the 7 p.m. open session inside the Council Chambers at Ripon City Hall, 259 N. Wilma Ave.
