The Ripon Rotary Club Bingo and Poker Tournament held Friday night in the Community Center drew 160 competitors some of whom played well beyond the 9 p.m. cutoff time vying for the top prize.

Rotary President Nancy Hall said she was pleased with the outcome of the annual event that saw 16 members of her club work together to organize the event that included some 30 pizzas, chips and candy and other refreshments for the players.

Andres Hyles, of Manteca, came out the champ among the seven tables of poker players and took home $500 for his efforts.  Tom Terpstra was second receiving $300 and Mike Garcia finished in third place with $200.  Randy Ludwig was fourth with $100.

A Lake Tahoe trip went to Kelly Day, according to Lori Adams who made a presentation of a gift basket and the trip at her place at the bingo table.  The trip was donated by Rotarian Dean Uecker.  Adams was also lauded for keeping a sharp eye on the bingo tables and helping senior citizens locate their numbers when they were called out.

Rotarians John Orcutt and Tyler Kirk called out the numbers over the public address system as a projector beamed the activity onto the back wall of the center.

The non-profit Rotary Club event was seen bringing in more donations this year than they enjoyed in 2012 with most of them being used in underwriting scholarships and other educational benefits for Ripon students including providing hard bound dictionaries for all third graders in the community’s schools.

The Ripon Rotary Club meets every Wednesday noon at the Barnwood Restaurant and is seeking new members in the business and professional world who will follow their motto of “Service Above Self.”
