SAN JOSE COUNCIL APPROVES CORPORATE JET FACILITY: SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — Despite complaints by residents, the City Council has approved an $82 million facility for corporate jets at Mineta San Jose International Airport.

Tuesday night's 10-1 vote did not add an extra curfew provision that had been omitted in the bidding process.

About two dozen residents who live near the airport's flight path urged the council to reconsider the project by reinstating an 11:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. curfew rule, increasing the curfew violation fines, or reducing the length of the lease.

Signature Flight Services will enter into a 50-year lease for the project that includes seven hangars for corporate jets, most of which will house aircraft for Google executives.

The Signature facility is projected to provide at least $3 million annually in rent and other fees.

FATHER DIES IN SAN JOSE AFTER FIGHT WITH DAUGHTER: SAN JOSE (AP) — A teenage girl from San Jose faces manslaughter charges after her 50-year-old father suffered a heart attack and died after the two got into a physical fight, police said.

Hoang Tran's 17-year-old daughter was arrested on Friday and booked into Santa Clara County Juvenile Hall on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter in Tran's April 9 death, the San Jose Mercury News reported on Tuesday.

The girl is not being named because she is a juvenile.

Tran died three days after the altercation at his home, when officers arrived to find him down and unresponsive. The girl had pushed her father to the ground during the fight, according to police, who attributed Tran's cardiac arrest and subsequent death to the altercation.

WOMAN SHOT IN HEAD WHILE SLEEPING AT HOME: HAYWARD  (AP) — Hayward police say a woman is recovering after being shot in the head and neck while she was sleeping at her home.

Sgt. Eric Krimm says the 24-year-old woman was seriously injured after several bullets were fired at a window of the single-story home shortly after midnight Wednesday.

Krimm says the woman was conscious and communicating with others before she was taken to a local hospital, where she is listed in stable condition after undergoing surgery for her gunshot wounds.

Krimm says the woman's boyfriend was also at home during the early morning shooting.

Police do not have a motive for the shooting but say it doesn't appear to be random and that the house was targeted.
