East Union struck quickly during Thursday’s Valley Oak League matchup against visiting Oakdale.

Marissa King scored with a 25-yard shot, assisted by Meghan Wallace, which helped lift EU (15-1-1 overall, 8-1-1 VOL) to a 2-0 victory.

“We had an equal amount of shots on goal, but I would say we controlled play,” East Union head coach Jim Todd said. “We took advantage of opportunities with focused concentration. We changed formations to pressure up top so that (Oakdale) would have to deal with the additional offense.”

In the 34th minute, that adjustments paid off.

Isabella Cardenas finished with a goal off a 50-yard loft by defender Bekah Bonds. Anna Woods finished with nine saves and pitched a shutout.

“I enjoyed watching our team play against a perennial contender,” Todd said. “From the start to finish – and across the roster – we battled to record the win and collect three points in the VOL.”

East Union will play a critical match against Kimball Tracy on Tuesday.
