A man believed to be about 60 years old was found hanging in the predawn hours Monday morning in a Ripon park. He was the third suspected suicide in the past week.

A motorist driving down Wilma Avenue spotted the man who was thought to be Hispanic or Asian hanging from a basketball structure in the 600 block about 6 a.m. One neighbor said he was shocked when he saw the man as he opened the blinds of his family room before the body was cut down by Ripon Police officers.

The man was described as being about 5-foot-4 by neighbors who came out of their homes when first responders arrived on the scene.  Police said he carried no identification. His ID will be determined by the San Joaquin County Coroner’s Office.

The park is located just south of Fourth Street in a quiet central residential area in the city.

On Saturday shortly after 1 a.m., officers were notified that a 23-year-old 2008 Ripon High graduate had either fallen or jumped off the Nestle’s water tower next to the Second Street overpass and Highway 99.

It was last week that a Ripon man in his late 20s had apparently taken his own life with a gun. That suicide was not in a public place.
