Selena Gonzalez’s RBI single in the top of the first inning gave Manteca some needed early momentum on the road.

Kimball would end up sending the Buffaloes home from Tracy with a forgettable 29-8 mercy-shortened loss. It was a far different outcome from their March 28 meeting in which Kimball (7-3 Valley Oak League, 15-6 overall) had to come from behind to pull out a 4-3 victory. Both losses push Manteca (6-5, 12-8) further back in the race for a Sac-Joaquin Section playoff berths, with the head-to-head tiebreaking advantage going to the Jaguars.

“We just have to wipe it clean and start over,” Manteca coach Corey Navarro said. “Hats go off to Kimball.”

Kimball answered the Buffaloes’ early score with 12 runs in the bottom of the first. After two innings, the Jaguars were well ahead, 17-1.

Kimball, which totaled 26 hits and took advantage of four Manteca errors, had two players dole out five knocks apiece. Anisha Richardson crushed two home runs and two doubles to drive in six runs and plate three of her own. Gabbi Cox was also 5 for 5, adding two RBIs, three runs and two doubles. Taylor Honnoll added a home run and was one of five Jaguars to club three hits.

Manteca wasn’t short on offense either. Annissa Gonzalez was 2 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs. Monique Colunga (run, RBI), Selena Gonzalez (run, RBI) and Celina Cooper (run) also roped two hits each.

Oakdale 8, East Union 6

East Union suffered its second loss of the VOL season after giving up a two-run lead against Oakdale on Wednesday.

Jessica Flores (triple, three RBIs) and Valerie Ramos (3 for 4, three doubles, two RBIs) were two major contributors for the Lancers (10-2 VOL).

Sierra 26, Weston Ranch 4

Taylor Moss had a memorable afternoon Wednesday, finishing 5 for 5 with a cycle and 10 RBIs.

Arianna Cota (4 for 6, home run, six RBIs) and Kaitlea Maestas (3 for 5, three runs) also had stellar performances offensively. Sierra improved to 8-3 VOL.
