Manteca soccer continues tear

WESTON RANCH — Manteca High’s frosh-soph boys soccer team is still perfect after shutting out Weston Ranch 9-0 Monday.

Charlton Shankar blasted in the final three of five first-half goals for Manteca (3-0 Valley Oak League, 7-0 overall).

Giovanni Marin and Oral Nunis each added a score in the opening half. Marin struck again in the second half with additional goals coming from Tyler Fernandez, Justin Tarango and Issac Jiminez.

Brandon Basuil, Niko Gonzalez and Cameron Crippen each chipped in an assist.

East Union 8, Ceres 1
In Ceres, Jairo Baires spearheaded the Squires with a hat trick, and Joshua Bonds added two more.

Angel Zerbini, Jordan Kron and Michael Barbosa turned in a goal apiece.

VOLLEYBALL

Sophomore
Lathrop 2, Central Valley 0

In Lathrop, Briana Lopez led a balanced effort with six service points, three aces and four kills as the Spartans coasted to a 25-14, 25-18 sweep.

Other key contributors include Alayna Asuncion with three assists, three kills and two aces; Eliana Young with four kills and two blocks; and Anselma Rodriguez with three aces and two kills.

Manteca 2, Weston Ranch 0

At Weston Ranch, Jimi Guibor put forth a dominant effort at the net for Manteca (1-1, 4-2), which cruised 25-8, 25-15. Guibor ended up with nine kills to go with three blocks. Mia Ramirez and Breanne Hatfield added five kills apiece.

Jessica Reeder handed out 23 assists. Erin Kennedy tallied 14 service points, five of which were aces. Brittina Burch added 12 and six from the service line.

Sonora 2, Sierra 0
Host Sierra (1-1) dropped a two-game match, 14-25, 10-25. Kelly Paredes led the way with seven service points and an ace. Stephanie Davis anchored the back row with four digs.

Oakdale 2, East Union 0
At Dalben Center, the Squires were dealt an 11-25, 4-25 sweep.

East Union’s standouts include Alex Scopas (four digs), Victoria Ramos (two kills) and Megan Bautista (five assists).
Freshman

Oakdale 2, East Union 0
Kayla Lamont recorded a pair of aces, and Jillian Costa picked up five digs in East Union’s 11-25, 17-25 defeat.

Sonora 2, Sierra 0
The host Timberwolves (1-1) put up a good fight behind Alex Davis’ eight service points and Gabby Olmo’s solid play at the net. Sierra fell, 15-25, 22-25.
