Modesto Symphony staging ‘Let’s Go to Movies’ concert

MODESTO - The Modesto Symphony Orchestra (MSO) led by guest conductor Lucas Waldin, will present Let’s Go To The Movies with John Williams & Walt Disney on Friday, May 31, at 8 p.m. at the Gallo Center for the Arts in Modesto.

Tickets start at $15 and are available through the Gallo Center for the Arts Ticket Office at (209) 338-2100, Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays noon to 6 p.m. or at


The concert features favorite film scores from the prolific composer John Williams including the theme from Star Wars, Harry Potter, Schindler’s List and Raiders March, plus various Disney scores including A Disney Adventure, Pocahontas and Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl which features a special performance by the Modesto Symphony Youth Orchestra (MSYO) performing side-by-side with the full orchestra. 

Also on the program are Star Trek Through the Years, Ride of the Valkyries, Phantom of the Opera: Selections, Fantasia, Chicago Medley and a tribute to Hollywood in Hollywood Salute.  This is the final concert in the MSO’s 2012-13 Hilmar Cheese Company Pops Series.

The Modesto Symphony Orchestra will also be celebrating the close of the 2012-13 Season with a party before the concert “Movies, Music & Martini’s” on Friday May 31, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the bank building on the corner of 10th and I Street across from the Gallo Center for the Arts.  Tickets for the movie-themed party are $50 and are available from the MSO by contacting Alyssa Milano at (209) 523-4156 ext.108.  Party-goers will enjoy walking down the red carpet, mingling with movie look-a-likes including Storm Troopers and Captain Jack Sparrow, hearty hors d’ouevres, desserts, martini’s plus a selection of wines and other beverages before heading to the concert.
