Vanni heats up late, leads Sierra past Buffs

Stephanie Vanni scored eight of her 10 points during the fourth quarter Thursday night in leading the Sierra High sophomore girls basketball team past Manteca, 48-40.

Lyssa Allen paced the T’Wolves with 13.

Airenne Curry scored a game-high 15 for the Buffaloes, while both Mariah Navarro and Emily Owsley produced six.

Manteca travels to Weston Ranch Tuesday.

The T’Wolves host EU.

East Union 63, Weston Ranch 28
The Squires (10-3) remained unbeaten at 4-0 in Valley Oak League play with big games from many contributors.

Morgan Hulsebosch led the way with 18, and Katrina Camara scored 15 of her 16 in the first half.

Briona Fontenot had 12 points, Brittany LaMar had six points, 10 boards and seven steals, and Milliscent Puahi-Olangca had five points and seven assists.

Emily Medeiros paced the Cougars with nine.

Sierra 33, Manteca 31
Lia Unterholzner had 11 points and six rebounds, and Allison Armstrong had eight points and 12 rebounds in the T’Wolves win.

“Manteca started to make a comeback,” Sierra head coach Steve Unterholzner said. “But the girls showed a lot of poise.”

Mia Ramirez paced the Buffs with 16.

Manteca shot just 3 of 16 from the line.

“We were sluggish today,” Manteca head coach Kym Gause said. “We also had too many turnovers.”

Manteca heads to Weston Ranch Tuesday, while Sierra hosts EU.

East Union 45, Weston Ranch 38
The Pages picked up their fourth straight victory to kick off VOL play behind 16 points from Kristen Piasacki.

Klasey Kachalkin added 14 and Allison Telles had seven.
