A single SUV rollover on the eastbound Highway 120 connector to the northbound Highway 99 Sunday evening sent a driver to a Modesto trauma center after Manteca firefighters cut the roof off of his mid-2000 vintage vehicle.

Battalion Chief Kyle Shipherd said the SUV ran off the roadway at about 5:30 p.m. midway through the sweeping turn and went into a field to the north of the connector ramp rolling over on its side.  It took firefighters some 20 minutes to free the Bay Area motorist from his vehicle using the Jaws of Life, authorities said.

Mishaps on the connector usually see motorists losing control and careening off the roadway to the south in contrast to this collision that veered into the opposite direction.  In past wrecks speed has been seen as a factor.
