CALIFORNIA ALMOND CROP TO SURPASS 2B LBS IN 2013: MODESTO  (AP) — Federal agricultural officials are predicting another bumper crop for California's almonds this year.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture is predicting that the state's almond growers will produce more than 2 billion pounds of almonds.

That's up 6 percent from last year's production of 1.89 billion pounds.

Almonds are the state's largest agricultural export. The Almond Board of California says more and more farmers are growing almonds as demand for the nut blossoms worldwide.

The USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service based its latest estimate on a phone survey of 305 growers last month.

 

“COPS”  TV SHOW FILMING IN STOCKTON: The TV show "COPS" will spend several weeks filming in Stockton for episodes to air this fall on Spike. The show has been on the air since 1989.

A producer and a pair of two-man crews rode along with officers on Monday and Tuesday. Crew from the show are tweeting photos from ride-alongs and promoting the Stockton Police Department.

Officer Joe Silva, a police spokesman, says having the show in town will boost morale and work as a recruiting tool to hire new officers.

TORTURE ALLEGATIONS IN TURLOCK: TURLOCK - Two people are facing accusations of torture in Turlock after officers find evidence in their home.

Last month, a person told police he had been tortured.

During an investigation, Turlock Police focused on 42-year-old Salvador Rendon and 35-year-old Martha Ferguson.

Officers searched the couple’s home along Linwood Avenue Thursday morning.

Investigators say they found evidence that corroborated the victim’s accusations of torture, and arrested the couple. Rendon faces charges of torture and assault with a deadly weapon, Ferguson was booked into jail for a torture charge. The investigation is

 

CARJACKING IN STOCKTON DRIVEWAY: - A Stockton man was carjacked at his home on the 3000 block of Belleview Avenue early Friday morning, according to police.

The man said he returned home at 1:50 a.m. where he found three men inside another vehicle parked in his driveway. The three men confronted him and demanded money. They fled in the victim’s white 1998 Dodge Ram pickup.
