Severely deteriorating pavements at two high school and one elementary school campuses in the Manteca Unified School District are presenting health and safety risks.

It’s for those reasons the Board of Trustees is being asked to approve the use of $700,000 from Measure M funds to fix those problems. However, that sum is specifically requested for the portion of the upgrades at East Union under terms of the Measure M Ballot. The language of the bond measure requires that the funds are utilized for the modernization of existing school facilities.

If approved by the Trustees, work on the completion of the project at the three campuses – East Union High, Calla High, and Nile Garden Elementary – will all take place this summer.

Measure M, referred to as the Manteca Unified School District Improvement Bond of 2004, was approved by the voters during the general elections that year.  It authorized the district to issue and sell bonds of up to $66M “in aggregate principal amount to provide financing for the specific school facilities projects” outlined in the Bond Project List. Included in that list are annex schools, elementary schools and high schools.

Other items on the agenda tonight include:

• discussion regarding Lindbergh School, former site of the Manteca Adult School and ROP programs at East North Street, and giving direction on options for the use of the facility; identifying future facility needs of the district’s charter school called the Manteca Unified Vocational Academy;

• discussion and approval of the Memorandum of Understanding between the YMCA of San Joaquin and Manteca Unified regarding the launching of 2013 summer programs offered for the Weston Ranch community;

• discussion and awarding of summer roofing projects at Brock Elliott and Stella Brockman elementary schools.

The board will meet at 7 p.m. in the district office board room at 2271 W. Louise Ave.
