Jack (Jacinto) Cruz

Jack Cruz passed away on September 18, 2009 after a more than twenty year battle with cancer.  He leaves behind his wife of 55 years, Marie.  He is also survived by his three children Denise Freitas (Robert), Stephen Cruz (Lorraine) and Delinda Sybert (Peter) as well as his eight grandchildren, Bobby (Shelley), David, Lisa, Kristen, Morgan, Sydney, Elysia and Camille as well as four sisters, Roberta Rich (Bobbie), Juanita Adams, Dolores Riley  ( Snookie), Ramona Abdallah (Dan), two brothers, Gil Cruz (Nancy), Adolf Cruz (Shirley) and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his mother Dolores Cruz, his sisters Carmelita Cozad, Lenora Gardea and brother James Cruz, Jr.

He was born in Sacramento, CA on April 5, 1930, and spent his childhood in Lathrop, CA.  He joined the Merchant Marines for five years as well he served in the Army for two years during the Korean War before marrying the love of his life Marie, in Stockton, CA, on September 10, 1954.  After marriage, he settled in East Contra Costa County where he would live the remainder of his life.  He served as a volunteer fireman for four years with the Knightsen Fire Department and served four years on the Knightsen school board.

He retired in 1988 after thirty-two years working with du Pont in Antioch.  He loved to travel with his wife and made the most out of his retirement having enjoyed countless RV trips with his grandchildren and loved his nearly annual trips to Maui.  Their travels took him to five continents.  When home, he thoroughly loved tending to his gardens at his Knightsen residence and later at his daughter’s and son-in-law’s residence.

Private internment will be held at Union Cemetery in Brentwood.
