The past few weeks of school have been a whirlwind for Taylor Vos.

On Wednesday, she finished the last of her classes at Ripon Christian High and, on this day, was en route to Rio Linda. Vos is defender for the Knights’ soccer squad that shellacked second-seeded Victory Christian 4-1, in this Sac-Joaquin Section Division VII playoff semi-final game.

As valedictorian for the Class of 2013, Vos is closing out the school year with a bang.

She found out just two weeks ago on earning the top academic honor. “I was thrilled but didn’t make a huge deal out of it,” said Vos of the prestigious title.

Katie Donoho is the salutatorian.

Taylor Vos is the daughter of Ann and Kent Vos. She’s attended RC since kindergarten and considers those at the Christian-based school as an extended family of sort.

After graduation – Ripon Christian’s commencement ceremony is 7 p.m. on Friday, May 24, at the school gym – she’ll have time to prepare for life after high school. Vos was accepted to Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego.

She’s looking to major in nursing.

Not far behind will be her love for music. At RC, Vos was involved in band and four choral groups including the Knightingales. Besides four years of soccer, she also played volleyball for the Knights.

Around town, Vos is active in her church, Emmanuel Christian Reform, where she’s a member of the worship team and youth group.

Vos has also done plenty of volunteer work, including children’s worship services and Vacation Bible School.

In addition, she works part-time at Ripon Roadhouse restaurant.

Vos is enjoying what’s left of high school. “You really don’t how much you miss it until you get into your senior year,” she said.

Vos added: “RC has been a huge blessing in my life.”
