On Friday 05/17/2013 at about 0243 Hrs, the Manteca Police Department responded to the 300 blk of S. Airport Wy regarding a solo rollover vehicle collision.  Several officers arrived on scene and found two adult males trapped inside a two door burgundy Scion.  The vehicle had major damage and was positioned near a mobile home on the east side of Airport Wy.

Personnel from the Manteca Fire Department arrived on scene and used the jaws of life to extract the front seat passenger who was determined to be deceased.  The driver, who was also deceased, was pinned inside the car in a position where he could not be extracted until the vehicle was moved to a safe position.

Manteca Police activated their Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) who responded and took over this investigation.  The Manteca Community Emergency Response Team (C.E.R.T) also responded and provided traffic control.

From preliminary witness accounts, it is believed the vehicle was traveling S/B on Airport Wy at an extremely high rate of speed.  The vehicle lost control shortly after passing W. Yosemite Ave and left the roadway, sheering off a telephone pole and overturning.  The vehicle came to rest after contacting a mobile home.  No residents were inside this mobile home at the time.

The Manteca Police Department is continuing its investigation into this matter.   It is unknown at this time whether alcohol played a factor in this collision.  Manteca Police are not releasing the names of the occupants pending notification of next of kin.
