Interested in scuba diving? Curious about what lifeguard training involves? Want to swim laps for exercise? Need to learn how to swim? Or do you just want to splash around and have fun?

The City of Manteca is offering fee classes and pool time to do all of that once again this summer.

Unlike some jurisdictions that have slashed back recreation offerings or even closed public swimming pools due to the budget crunch, Manteca has kept their program afloat by making sure fees cover the majority of the costs.

Swim lessons

You have the option of group or private swim lessons. Group lessons are offered on eight different skill levels with five programs designed for those 6 and older as well as three younger age specific programs for those nine months to three years, three to five years, and and four to six years.

There are five sessions.. They cover two week periods, Monday through Thursday for eight lessons at 35 minutes each. The cost is $42  for Manteca residents and $42 for non-residents. Lessons take place at the Lincoln Park and Manteca High swimming pools. The upcoming sessions are June 3-13, June 17-27, July 1-11, July 15-25, and July 20-Aug. 8. Registration for upcoming sessions closes at 5 p.m. on the prior Thursday. That means this Thursday at 5 p.m. is the deadline for the two-week sessions starting on Monday.

Private swim lessons for youth or adults are available at the Manteca High pool for $100 for residents and $110 for non-residents. It consists of four Monday through Thursday 40-minute lessons. There are sessions available on Saturday for private lessons.

Junior lifeguard & scuba diving

Two junior lifeguard clinics for ages 10 through 14 are planned at the Lincoln Pool The first session is Saturday, June 13, and the second session is Saturday, July 19. Both sessions are from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The cost of a session is $20 for residents and $30 for non-residents.

Introduction to scuba classes for those 10 and older are scheduled for Sundays on June 23 and July 21 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Manteca High pool. The cost is $10 or $20 for non-residents.

Public & lap swimming

The Lincoln Pool is open from June 1 through Aug. 11 for public swimming. The hours are 1 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, Friday evening from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. as well as Saturday and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. Lincoln Pool is located on Powers Avenue across from the fire station south of East Yosemite Avenue and behind Lincoln School.

Lap swimming for all ages takes place Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Manteca High. No pre-registration is required. You simply pay the $2 per session fee at the entrance to Manteca High swimming pool. A minimum of five swimmers are needed for the session to take place.

Lincoln Pool can also be rented for a minimum of two hours with lifeguards included for summer parties. The first two hours for groups of up to 50 people is $120 with each additional hour at $60.
