It is billed to be a senior health fair like none other to date in Ripon starting with a five mile walk at 8 a.m. from the Bethany Home Town Square, Main Street campus on Friday.

Some 300 guests are expected to attend the event, according to Bethany’s Julie Dearaujo, instrumental in planning the event.

It is in recognition of Older Americans Month and in the continued celebration of Bethany Home’s 50th Anniversary.  The event will feature an art show in the lobby of the two-story retirement center, fitness and educational sessions and a cooking demonstration by Dana Johnson of Fox40 News.

There will be some 30 participating vendors including Denise’s Farmers Market, Natural Path Wellness Center, Almond Valley Chiropractic, Kaplan College, Young at Heart, Down 2 Earth Natural Living, Jessup’s Blueberry Farm, Ripon Family Physicians, Save Mart Pharmacy, Alzheimer’s-Dementia Support Center, Wesson Hearing Aid Center, Ripon Primary and Urgent Care Center and Doctors Hospital of Manteca.

Registration for the “Walk for Wellness” is scheduled for 7:45 a.m. followed by a warm up session and a walk going down Main Street and south to the Jack Tone Golf Course using the tree-lined bike trail on the west side of the roadway.   There will be a shuttle available for those who tire on the walk.  Family members of area seniors are welcome to join in the activities.

The vendor information booths will open at 8:30 a.m. and continue until 1 p.m. Additional parking is available at Almond Valley Church on South Wilma Avenue with shuttle service to the site of the health fair.

Educational stage presentations are scheduled to cover a three and a half hour period beginning with “Physical Fitness” at 9 a.m. by Steve de Graaf, Estate and Gift Design.  “Fire Safety” is on tap at 9:30 to be presented by Ripon Fire Marshal Joel Castro.

Ripon pharmacist Phil Smith will be outlining a routine of “Managing Your Meds” during his presentation at 10 a.m.

At 10:30 Nancy Marlow, Bethany Home fitness instructor and Kim Viviano, of the Healthy Aging Association will present “Young at Heart” and “Fitness While You Sit.”

“Cooking with Dana” is scheduled at 11 a.m. presented by Dana Johnson of Fox40 News and at noon Bethany Home Physical Therapists Joel Tokheim and Hal Corbett are presenting “Staying Well Balanced.”

A 17-minute-long film, “Inside My Being,” is scheduled to be shown at 9, 10, and 11 a.m. about Alzheimer’s disease in the activity room of the Town Square two story apartment building.  It is in that building that Bethany has a swimming pool for seniors’ health needs that is also offered to other seniors in the community.

A lunch is scheduled from 11 until 1 under the covered patio at the retirement center for a suggested $2 donation.  The City of Ripon’s “Blossom Express” bus is also slated to be on display for seniors to familiarize its offerings.
