John Robert Gibson

John Robert (JR) Gibson, 15, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2009 at Oakland Children’s Hospital. He was born on November 3, 1993 in Manteca. He joins his grandfathers in heaven; Bob Gibson, Butch Dowhower and great-grandfather Curly Dowhower. John was a resident of Manteca his entire life.

JR is survived by his mother Stacey Gibson of Manteca, father John Gibson and wife Jennifer of Manteca, brother, Wesley Gibson of Manteca, grandparents Bill and Kathy Brister of Grants Pass, Ore., and Ruth Gibson of Manteca. Great-Grandmothers are Elaine Dowhower of Manteca and Dorothy Victorino of Stockton. Great-aunts/ uncles; Linda Voorheis of Manteca, Claudia Willis of Stockton and Kirk and Dee Ann Victorino of Stockton, aunts and uncles Lisa and Roger Johnson of Manteca, Debbie and Dave Neal of Mission Viejo, Rob and Julia Gibson of Modesto, Amy and Aaron Latner and Jon Dowhower of Grants Pass, Ore. In addition JR is survived by many cousins and other extended family members who loved him dearly.

JR attended Lincoln Elementary School and attended Manteca High School as an honor roll sophomore student. He was involved with J.R.O.T.C. and Friday Night Live Club. His best friend and constant companion was his little brother Wesley; he and his brother were inseparable. He was a long time Star Wars fan and loved World of War Craft. He studied martial arts through Moore’s for many years where he earned his green belt and was working on his brown belt.  He loved his video games and was always up to a great challenge of any on-line gaming. John was a very intelligent young man who was always concerned with making the right decisions and doing the right things. John’s favorite cars were Mustangs and Camaros; he looked forward to receiving his license one day. JR was very intrigued by Fighter Jets especially the Blue Angels. His cats Bubba and Macha were his playful pals, whom he loved very much. One of John’s heroes was his uncle Roger; he wanted to be a police officer as an adult just like him. Most of all, John will be remembered as Pure Hearted young man who loved everyone for who they were.

John’s services are being handled by P.L. Fry & Son Funeral Home of Manteca. A visitation will be held on Friday, Oct. 2, from 3 to 7 p.m. at P.L. Fry & Son Funeral Home 290 N. Union Road, Manteca. A Celebration of John’s life will be on Saturday, Oct. 3, at 4 p.m. held at St. Paul’s Methodist Church on the corner of North and Powers Manteca. Final resting place will be private.
